Plaid Matters

I’ve been feeling kind plaid lately – actually I feel pretty plaid most of the time – but it seems to have kicked up a bit more recently. Here are some recent & not-so-recent images of things I’ve made or plan to make. All are my original designs. I like playing with plaid, despite all of the potential frustrations; seeing how it merges and intersects with itself and other fabrics, how scale can be manipulated, and how a change in direction can change the entire effect of the pattern.

The two B&W sketches are the most recent, I’m planning them for this Spring, probably in a light and springy (ie, not tartan plaid) fabric.
The partial dress on the form is a play on a 50s style dress that I will make for real when I find the right fabric. The corset/cincher is made from recycled mens’ vests from Goodwill, lightly boned & fully lined. The color illustration is also waiting for the right fabric, and needs to be tweaked a bit (she’s a tad topheavy, no?).
